- Famine Times
The great famine occurred in Ireland in the year 1840-47.
The cause of this famine was when the disease came on the patatoes. During this famine people died in great numbers because they could get no good potatoes to eat as there was an awful disease on the potatoes.
This disease started first with little specks on the leaves and then the potatoes died and were of no use to anyone.
All the people that died round this place were buried in a piece of waste ground in Carlingford.
There were three houses build in this place for the sick. They were called "sick Houses."
