  1. Marriages usually take place before Lent, on Shrove Tuesday, and after Easter Sunday. Long ago there used to be a lot of runaway marriages on Shrove Tuesday and during Shrove. People usually marry on Wednesday as we have from the rhyme. Monday for health, Tuesday for wealth, Wednesday the best day of all, Thursday for losses, Friday for crosses, Saturday for no luck at all.
    April was considered the luckiest month for marriages, and May most unlucky.
    Matches were made in this district long ago, but very seldom now, and money is given as dowry. Stock and goods are not given now-a-days. Many old customs are reserved on the wedding day. It is customary for the young man to wear a dress suit if the bride is dressed in white. The bridegroom's car is usually first to the Chapel and the brides first returning. It is unlucky for the wedding party to return home from the Chapel the same road as they went. People throw old boots after the wedding cars for luck.The wedding breakfast is always in the girls home, and the bride invites her own friends and the bridegroom his own friends and
