- In olden times St Brigid's Day was kept as a great Feast. On St Brigids Eve people used to make crosses of rushes or straw. They would hang them over the door and in the stables, and in the roof of the houses, to bring the blessing of St. Brigid on their home.
- The old custom of making pancakes on Shorve Tuesday night has still remained in Ireland. On Shrove Tuesday night the people in nearly every house have a great feast of pancakes and bacon.
