- There are several old forts in this district. One of these forts is situated in the parish of Moynalty and about one furlong west of Loughan crossroads in the County Meath. The townland in which it is situated is called Rathinree or Kingsfort and is about two miles from Moynalty village. This fort is a circular mound of earth and there are trees growing around it. The peculiar feature about it is that the opening which leads to the cave is on top of the mound. The opening is closed by a large stone which is covered with clay or moss. The old people believe that there are three tunnels leading from this fort. One tunnel leads eastwards to a fort in Baltrasna about a mile away. Another leads in a north-westerly direction to Rathban fort. The other leads in a north-easterly direction to Garryand fort about two and half miles away. These tunnels are supposed to have been used as places of refuge or escape by Catholics when they were persecuted during the Penal Days. They are also(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
