locked it away in a press in the kitchen. He looked at it every day, and he knew it was safe.
One night he dreamt that it was stolen. In the morning, he opened the press and the gold was gone.
He saw no more of the gold for about forty years. He was then married and had a large family. One day his son decided to clean out the well, as there was an ugly taste of the water.
When he had the well empty, he found an old empty crock at the bottom. He took it home and showed it to his father. At once the father recognised it as his own crock. He opened it very quickly, but it was full of moss and clay. At the bottom were three small stones, and not a sign of the gold was left.
