- The people in olden times used not eat the same sort of bread as the people now. They used eat bread made of oat meal mixed with water. This was the bread they mostly baked and they used eat it without butter. This bread was made of oat meal mixed with water and formed into a dough then it was left aside to set and then it is left on a griddle in front of fire to bake and when it was baked it was brown and crisp and the people liked it better than any other bread.
