- The sign that the people have of the weather are when the cat turns his back to the fire and begins washing his face with his paws, it is a sign of rain. When the people used to drive out the cattle to the field, if they lie down outside the gate it is a sign of good weather, but if they come down from the hill into the hollow, it is a sign of wet and windy weather. When the pig begins to grunt and gather his bed into a corner it is a sign of rain. If it begins to rain and the sheep to go to shelter it would only be a shower, but if they keep on eating it would be a wet day. When the duck sleeps with his beak under his wing it is a sign of rain.
