Hucksters, pedlars, and dealers in feathers and rags visited the district in former times. They used to sell laces, brooches, combs, pictures, pins, needles, lace, wool, and door mats. They bought feathers and rags from the people also. They still come. - The houses which existed in the district in former times were small mudwall cabins.
These houses were thatched. When oats was threshed the straw was kept to thatch the houses.
