- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)and mud and covered with thatch. The houses of long ago were healthy and more numerous than these of today and so the country was more thickly populated then. There were not many factories long ago but there were two that nearly everyone joined in, in this district, soap, candle and linen making. The land around here consists of two kinds of light uplands and bog. It is good for tillage and raising young stock. We have a large bog a branch of the bog of Allen coming right up to the village. There is one large river which is the river Brosna; one lake, lake Beledere & one little stream called "Molly Smullens" called after an old residenter who lived beside it in years gone by which now runs peacefully through the place where the great battle of Tyrrellspass was fought. On Summer's evenings you will find many of the village juveniles fishing for "pinkeens" in this lovely little stream on in Autumn bringing hazel nuts & blackberries from the bushes near by.
