- Every district in Ireland has some ancient customs concerning a marriage which have been handed down out of the past and which are perhaps being forgotten by the people.
This district is not lacking in its old customs which characterize the place. There are not so many marriages now as in olden days but whatever marriages do take place are solemnized before Ash Wednesday, during Shrove. We hear of weddings nearly always taking place on a Wednesday as it is considered a lucky day whilst Tuesdays and Saturdays are unlucky days.When we hear of a person getting married in the month of May, the old rhyme is quoted, "Marry in May and you'll rue the day." The month of June is considered a lucky month in which to be married.
