(gan teideal) (ar lean)
“There is a record of two poets who lived in my district between three and four hundred years ago.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Oh grim Lord of Laragh, the Bards
gloomy foe
Go frighten the coward and the
slave
Go teach them to tremble foul
tyrants,
but know
No terrors thou hast for the brave.Gavigan wrote many verses lampooning his enemies and some of them are still remembered. When Sir Desmond died Gavigan wrote one thus-
Rest gently turf upon his breast,
His chicken heart's so tender,
But rear huge castles on his head,
His skull will prop them under. Some years afterwards the two poets died. Gavigan was buried in Killmacnevan and Murdock was buried in Kilbixey.- Bailitheoir
