    There is a record of two poets who lived in my district between three and four hundred years ago.

    Oh grim Lord of Laragh, the Bards
    gloomy foe
    Go frighten the coward and the
    slave
    Go teach them to tremble foul
    tyrants,
    but know
    No terrors thou hast for the brave.
    Gavigan wrote many verses lampooning his enemies and some of them are still remembered. When Sir Desmond died Gavigan wrote one thus-
    Rest gently turf upon his breast,
    His chicken heart's so tender,
    But rear huge castles on his head,
    His skull will prop them under.
    Some years afterwards the two poets died. Gavigan was buried in Killmacnevan and Murdock was buried in Kilbixey.
