were put in a basin, then a teaspoonful of salt was mixed through the meal. It was then wet with warm water because cold water would not gather the meal in a heap.
The old people used to make potatoe cakes and rasp. The rasp was made in this way first nine or ten uncooked potatoes were rasped on a grater into a basin. Then a piece of linen was got and the basin of rasp was thrown into it. A clean bucket was got and the tongs was put across the mouth of it. The rasp was put on the tongs and the water was squeezed out of it into the bucket. The water was let settle for a few minutes it was then thrown out and the starch remained in the bottom of the bucket. This and the rasp and a few cooked potatoes was left in a basin for a night or so. Then it was mixed together and put on the pan.
