- This well is situated about a quarter of a mile from the main road, and in a small three-cornered field, which lies at the foot of the Hill of Forgney. This field forms part of the farm owned by a man named James Derwin. It lies about half a mile west of Forgney School.
Over the well grows an ash tree which is now partly decayed, the trunk being hollow. There is a stone flag beside the well. It is said that St. Patrick, when in the district, knelt on this flag, to drink from the well, the waters of which he blessed.
This well is deep, and never runs dry. But the water is never used for household purposes. The people of the neighbourhood keep some of it in(continues on next page)- Collector
