- There is a legend in some parts of Ireland that one time March was a very severe month and there was an old red cow which did not like it at all.
When the last day of March came the old cow said, "As hard as you tried to skin me you did not succeed." March was so vexed that she borrowed three days from April and during these three days she was more severe than ever and at last succeeded in skinning the cow. This is why the three last days of March and the three first days of April are called "Riabóg Days."
Days that are supposed to be unlucky to do things:- May-day is supposed to be unlucky to go into a new house, or to get married, or to throw out ashes. It is a belief with some people that if they begin a thing on a Saturday and do not finish it on that day they will never finish it and other people believe the same(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
