  1. Shops were not so very common in former times as nowadays. The people did not go to town because there were small shops near at hand. Selling and buying was common long ago after Mass. It is not carried out as much nowadays as in days gone by. Money was not always given. Sometimes the would work for the person till he would have paid him back. I never heard of any unlucky day for buying or selling. Markets were very common long ago. They are still held. Here are the nicknames given to money.
    A pound was called = a quid.
    A shilling " " = a bob.
    Four Shillings " " = a dollar.
    Sixpence " " = a tanner or a kick.
    Three penny piece " " = a kick's eye.
    A penny " " = A wing
    A halfpenny " " = A make.
    Two and sixpence " " Two and a kick.
