- The old people used to use a lot of local cures. Here are some of them. When a child would have the chincough it would have to be put in and under a mare ass's legs three times. When this would be done a piece of bread would be put under the ass's nose to let him breath on it and then the piece of bread would be given to the child and it would be cured.A cure for a sprained ankle is to get some (comfrey?) and wash the roots then cut them up real fine the nput them on a cloth and put the cloth on your ankle until it would be well.A cure for a sore throat is to make a (poultice?) out of turnips and put them on your neck.
