- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)and said he was a protestant and for that he should die and so should the cobbler if he didn't hold his tongue. The youth seeing a chance of escaping fled through the open door and turned up a lane that led from the cobbler's house to the fields. When he had gone about 400 yards up the lane, his path was blocked by a gate, the pikemen were now closely behind him and would have captured him if he attempted to climb the gate. There was no way of escape but to turn and fight, this he did and so gallantly did he fight that he killed two of the pikemen by means of a pike which he had taken from the first pikeman who reached him but being outnumbered five to one he died fighting. It is said that where he fell the mark of a coffin can be seen to this day.
