- The local patron saint of this parish is Saint Brigid for who everyone has great respect. She led a very hard life farming and minding the poor.She became a nun and she never spent a portion of an hour away from prayer and God. When she was in the monastery in Kildare she tended the sheep and minded the dairies. Saint Brigid used to gather bundles of fire wood and give it to the poor.There are two wells around this district in memory of her. One of them is in Brideswell and another in Kiltilly. There was a stone over the one in Brideswell with the mark Brigid's foot on it. One day there was a man fencing and he put the stone up on it. When he returned for water the stone was on the well.
He put the stone up again, and when he came back the stone was broken across in the middle and it was over the well.
Saint Brigid was buried in Clonmacnoise(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
