    was beginning to get very serious, for all the people were left without any butter and that was bad enough. They were all at a loss to know what was wrong, for the cows all seemed perfectly healthy, and they began to think there was something at the back of it all when the people who had the wan cow were lucky enough with their butter. They came to the conclusion that somewan was takin' the butter on all the big farmers.
    Wan farmer had twelve cows in full milk and hadn't a pound of butter. He had wan ould cow an' she was a fairly good milker an' he thought that somethin' might be the matter with her and she was destroyin' the milk of the other cows. So he said to himself that he would sell her the next fair day. He brought her to the fair and sold her to an ould woman for a few pounds. The ould woman brought her home and milked her, and collected the cream for three or four days. Then when it was ripe she put it in the churn and churned it an' the butter came good enough, and the poor woman was delighted. A few weeks after this she met the
