There are a lot of hills in the townsland, and these are covered with furze bushes, but even so a lot of sheep are reared there. - The Local Forge
There are four forges in the town of Clara. One the banks of the Brosna tow of them are situated, the third is at a cross-road and the fourth is in the Green.
They belong respectively to Bill Handy, Jim Hogan, Dick Ennis and Jimmy Grady. These black-smiths shod horses, donkeys and wheels.
