- St Brigid’s Day.
The feast of St Brigid is held on the 2nd of February. On the evening before some people make six or seven St Brigid’s Crosses and put them up in the outhouses so that St Brigid’s Blessing may fall upon themselves and their animals. On St. Brigid’s Eve the boys go round from house to house dressed up for the purpose of collecting money. They are called Bridgeógs. Sometimes they have a doll dressed up as a Bridgeóg. The people of the house give them some money and then they go away. When they have gone to all the houses they buy sweets, and things like that and have a feast and a game for themselves- Bailitheoir
