    the boats and beckoned them to pull in to the bank. The boats raced to the bank like the wind. As they approached the greyhound began to tumble, let a terrible howl and fled like the wind up the Shannon bank across the bridge and home. The baker looked at the boats and almost fell with fright. In each boat he saw 4 little men (some say he saw seven) dressed in black with black hands and faces, ears like dogs and about four feet in height. The baker took out his beads and began to pray and at the same time went towards the Bridge as fast as his legs could carry him. One of the little men chased him with an oar. When he reached the Bridge there were two of the townspeople standing there. The baker pointed out the boats to them on the river and they saw them in the distance. The story spread and everyone made a nine days wonder of it. The townspeople went down many evenings after to
