- Fairies in BanagherOn Tuesday evening July 19th 1938 a baker from Banagher named Jack Mc Glynn took out his greyhound to give it exercise. He took his dog down on the Galway side of the river Shannon and walked about 2 miles down the river from Banagher. As he was returning it was getting duskish. There are old eel boats lying disused near the Bridge of the Shannon. Beside those eel boats there are usually rowing boats tied up. As the baker approached the eel boats he saw what appeared to be four boats with six or seven children as he thought in each. He said to himself these children have taken out the boats for a joy ride and I had better warn them of this danger as they can scarcely manage the boats well.
