Ar an leathanach seo
- My home district is called Lacka. It is situated in the County of Tipperary, in the Barony of Lower-Ormond, and in the Parish of Birr. Most of the land is hilly and marshy, but some is good. There are a great many woods in it. The number of families in the townland is about 23. The population is 90 people or thereabouts. The meaning of Lacka is said to be poor sloping land. The houses most common in the district are thatched. There are only the ruins of two old houses in this district that I know of. Their owners were Jack Penders and Pat Whealan who are both dead. These houses were built of stones and clay and had thatched roofs. The walls are still to be seen. There is also in Lacka an ancient place known as Father Crotty's Chapel. Father Crotty was a priest in Birr at one time. He was cross and very fond of hunting the boys and girls with a whip. One night when he was out there was a woman who was telling fortunes.
