- (continued from previous page)This night it is customary for young people to go from house to house and wherever they find the best amusement there they remain and hold a dance. While the dance is in progress a basket of nuts is brought in and according as each pair gets out to dance two nuts are put on the fire. If they jump in the same direction it is supposed that the pair will shortly be married if not they will be separated.Many old stories are told of happenings on this night so many that it would be impossible to related them all yet here is one. On November's night many years ago a young lady got a cotton ball and went to a near by quarry where she let it unfold. When it reached the bottom she asked who was there. A young fellow who knew she was going was there and answered giving his name. She did not like him and she replied "will I have to marry him?" He answered "aye if you get him". She returned home very dissatisfied after her journey.Another strange custom was that a girl who(continues on next page)
