- A match played some nineteen years ago was between Swanlinbar and Cornafean. The two teams are very well matched and it is said that whoever won would do so by a small margin. That was night, and a great football match ensued.; but as Swanlinbar were at home they won by two points. The final score was :- Swanlinbar one goal four points, Cornafean five points. The match was well played, with no rough play in it. The colour of Swanlinbar was white and green and Cornafean had red and blue jerseys. Goal posts were used on the tops of those were the home colours. There was a large attendance, probably about two hundred people, and compared with the present crowds that attend, this was a very large crowd indeed.
The admission was one shilling and the referee was Mr Gallagher, who referees most of the matches played locally, and he gave fair play to both sides. Hurling has never been played in the district.
