- Wind-storm: The greatest windstorm in living memory was about the year 1904. A terrific gale up to eighty miles an hour blew all over the country. Many of the houses in this town were stripped of their slates. Two houses were burned at the golf-links about a mile outside Cavan town. Trees were uprooted all over the country.
In the year 1839 there was a severe wind-storm, the most severe storm that occurred in this country for well over a century. Thousands of families were rendered home-less and in many parts of the country whole plantations were blown down.
