In the name o Lord Jesus Christ crucified I lay down to rest, bless me O Lord Jesus defend and govern me and after a short and miserable pilgrimage bring me to ever lasting happiness, amen Jesus.
There are four corners on my bed.
On every corner may an angel spread.
When I lay down my head to sleep,
I pray to God my soul to keep.
St. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John,
God bless me in the bed that I lie on.
    If any evil troubles me,
The blessed Virgin Mary waken me.
If I die before I wake,
I pray to God my soul to take.
    Used to prevent plague.
When our Saviour saw the cross on which He was to be crucified He trembled and He shook. When the Jews came in they asked Him was He troubled with fever, plague, or ague. He made answer "No" but those who keep. My words in rememberance or writing ne'er shall be troubled with fever plague or ague.
