    boast of & this particular evening the cows were being driven home as usual for the night. On passing the fort the son was attracted by cries as if of a hungry infant coming from the fort. Relating this to his father Brian took a white cow and drove it back to the fort this cow being the better milker of the two he owned. This he did each night for months after & the cow next year brought forth a calf which was the envy of the whole countryside. Each year another calf was born & ore many years the stock of the Murtaghs increased & with the increasing supply of milk the amount of butter increased & the surplus stock was sold at ??? ?????.
    Some years after Brian was able to purchase a horse and with that intent he set out for the fair in Kilgolah near Ballyjamesduff. Having succeeded in his errand Brian set out on his promised Journey mounted on the back of his fiery young steed. His way led
