- (continued from previous page)While tyrants oppress us so keen,
Weighty are the chains that encumber,
The friends of the Shamrock so green. Poor Catholics, for their profession,
Groan with a burdensome yoke,
Crushed down by the weight of oppression
With labour combined to provoke,
Our humble petitions are slighted
By tyrants morasse and obscene.
Then, let us friends be untied
In the Isle of the Shamrock so green. My brethern, be calm, still and steady.
Act manly, courageous and true,
If occasion calls in you, be ready
And fall on the merciless crew.
Dire vengeance, grim death and confusion,
May widely expand o'er the scene.
Of tyrants foul blood in profusion,
That delayed the Shamrock so green.- Collector
