- The local fairs a held in Cavan, Belturbet and Clones. The most of the fairs are held in the towns. If the cattle were dear the dealers would go around the country buying. There was a fair in Redhills and Ballyhaise long ago. These are not held now. If the cattle were scarce the farmers would not get to the fairs because the buyers would have the cattle bought. There is a special place for fairs called the green.
There is a toll paid on the cattle comming out of Ballyconnell at a bridge. Three pence has to be paid for each head. When an animal is sold money is given back called a luck penny.
