(1) This incident happened during the time of the Penal days in Nenagh.
The Orange men put orange lilies across the streets and the Catholics were compelled to bow before them, while this was going on between them, a Scotch Regiment of cavalary was passing through the town, and the captain inquired what it was all about, and the catholics told him that they had to bow to the lilies or else the bell would not ring, so he drew his sword and cut down the lilies and went and rang the church bell.
He stopped in Nenagh that night in a Hotel, that evening he went for a walk out the Dublin Road and the orange men lay in ambush for him near the spout and they came out upon him and shot him.(continues on next page)- Collector
