- Beginning with Ballyporeen we find that this village was originally built by the Kingston family, by a Charter secured from the reigning King. The idea was to have military quartered there for the purpose of preventing any advance on the district by outlawed native princes and specially to protect the interests of the Kingston family. Military were never quartered there, and eventually the houses and allotments were let to natives on favourable conditions(continues on next page)
