Old Cures for Cattle.
In olden times there were no veterinary surgeons ,and the only cures the people had were the herbs that grew on the ground.
There is an old saying ,that there is not a herb that grows on the ground but there is a cure in it.
There is a red plant with a red stem and a red root and it is a cure for a dry murrain.
If a cow had a red murrain and you gave her a bucket of butter milk when you would see it first it would be cured. When they saw a cow with a red murrain first they stuck a pin in the ground and they thought it was a very good cure.
If a cow got a sore leg from walking and if you put a piece of old bacon up to it it would cure it.
If a cow had cold in her nostrils they would set fire to a piece of corduroy and hold it under the cows nose .
When a cow got murrain it was a common cure to stick a pin in the ground where the cows urine fell.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
