An old man leaned on his okerstaff
The tears stood in his eye.
His long white locks was flowing,
The breeze that passed him by.
He shook his head while pondering
On the days of long ago.
For well he could remember
The valley stretch below.
It was dotted oer with cottages,
A merry dance and song
Would pass the long dull winters eve;
But how the homes are gone.
2
How the ass and ox does ramble
Oer many a silent spot.
Where grew the tender daisy
And the wild forgetmenot.
Where blue eyed maids and tender youth
Trod by in joy and glee,
To join the dance at twilight
Round the old white-thorn tree.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
