"Bread ".The bread of the olden times was made from wheaten flour.The people ground it at home themselves.The "quern stones"were fairly big stones with a hole in the middle of them.We have not any of them at home now. I do not know how it was made.They used to bake the bread on a griddle or and in an oven.The stand they used put under the griddle was called a "brand".They made "sweet cake "long ago on special occasions.The cross or mark that is put on the top of the cake is to prevent the crust from rising off.- Bailitheoir
