On January 28th. 1938 the bank of the Shannon broke and the village of Coonagh was flooded. The water went into the houses and the crops were destroyed; a horse was drowned in the flood. The flood was several feet high on the road and traffic was held up. About one thousand acres of land were under water.
In the year 1915 there was a great storm and there was a ship coming up the Shannon. It had a cargo of porter and the ship sank. The barrels of porter came to the land. The Coonagh people were allowed to keep the liquid but had to give back the barrels. Not so very long ago there was heavy rain and there was a ship coming up the Shannon. It had a cargo of Indian corn. The pilot that went on board the vessel was drunk and he went up on a rock. When the tide went out the boat split in two.
