- A man in Ballinlough named John Kane saw a water horse several times but he failed to catch her. One day he said that he would catch her. When the water horse came in on land the man stole up and caught her and brought her at once to the forge and put shoes on her. He then went home and next day brought the horse back to the field and worked her for the whole day. The horse was very quiet and a good worker. This continued for four or five years. One day the horse lost her shoes and off she went as fast as she could for the lake and she was never heard of again.
