- About a hundred years ago the old people used to believe that when they would be churning the fairies would take away the butter. For this reason they used to put a coal uder the churn before they would begin churning. They used also believe that if a man came in when you were churning and if he did not churn for a minute he would be taking the butter.One day a woman out in Roigh was churning and a man came in. He came up to the fire and sat down without putting his hand on the churn-dash. When he went home she continued churning but the milk didn't break.
