    The swans too are plentiful around here swimming about in the Shannon they add to the scenery of the district. They lay their eggs in the reeds too and the young ones are very plentiful on the Shannon.
    They don't seem to like the winter. No one interferes with the swan as it is considered unlucky. Once a man shot a swan and he got ill soon afterwards and died.
    The swans fight among themselves and often fight to death. Their cry at night portends death.
    The Curlews are heard here too. They are fond of crying at night when people say its a sure sign of rain.
    Magpies are seen in the Spring. They denote luck good or bad according to their number.
    Sky-goat often heard at night - cries like a lamb.
