  1. The burning of Carracastle barrack.
In February 1920 orders came to the leaders of the I.R.A. in Carracastle to take over and burn the barrack. Fearing a trap a proper attack was arranged. About fifty volunteers taking part.
A section was put on each of the three roads leading to the barrack to hold up expected reinforcement of "Tans" from Swinford. Four volunteers approached the door of the barrack and knocked. The door not being opened they smashed it in.
The volunteers entered the barrack and searched it to see if there were any R.I.C. in ambush in it. They found nobody in it but the sergeant's wife and children. They removed herself, her children, and the furniture out on the road.
