He had to go with her as she grazed over the green fields of Ireland. One morning as he stood outside his forge, a young soldier came up to him and saluted him. He asked Gobniu to make a sword for him, and he said it must be long and sharp. He said it would not be any trouble to him, but he had other work to do. He said he had to follow his cow from morning till night, for if he took his eye off her for one moment she would follow her halter to Balor. The soldier said they could help one another.
