  1. The Potato Crop
    We set about an acre of potatoes every year. The potatoes that grow best in our district are Irish Queens. We set them in drills. We put manure on them make them grow well. First we harrow it and plough it. The farmers help each other to set the crop. When the potato stalks are a foot high they are sprayed. After that they wither and they are dug out. It is the children mostly that pick the potatoes into buckets. They are then stored in pits. The farmer makes a hole in the ground a foot deep and twenty
