Twas in 1916 on Easter Monday fair
    Our Galway boys did mobilise
    and for battle did prepare
With Captain Mellow's by their side
    He led the Galway men
He said "Unite and we will fight for Ireland's cause again."
God bless the men of Galway
Who took their guns on hand
And went on the road to Moyode
    To fight for dear Ireland
With Father Feeney in their midst
He put the gold and white up high
And Ireland's sons came with their guns
    To the town of Athenry
And when they left their homes that day.
They bade a fond "Good bye"
For they were true bred Irishmen
