  1. 1V Story (Lios Dubh)
(Told by Maggie Connolly of Lios Dubh)
This is the name of the townland on which Loorha School is built but it is commonly called Loorha village. This is probably due to the fact that rushes rather than forts predominate in the locality.
The farm contains about one hundred acres and the southern portion of it, namely the part thro' which the Carrinaseer River runs abounds in rushes- hence the name "Luachra" which signifies rushes.
the following story is told about @liof' or 'dún' which is situated about a furlong south of Loorha School.
Local tradition has it that whenever there is a death in the immediate vicinity (that is in the village of Loorha & Carranamanagh) the "banshee" is to be heard "keening" and the author of this story has heard it more than once.
