    Hedge Schools
There was a hedge school in Fairfield long ago. The teachers name was Michael. It was under trees. He used to go to a house and get a bit of a slate to write with. He was very nice to the children. He knew a little Irish and all that he knew he taught it to the children. The children liked him very well. The subjects he taught were arithmetic and poetry. He used to spend two hours every day teaching. The teacher came from Drogheda.
