  1. Lord Clanricarde was the landlord of this locality and he was cruel to his tenants. He evicted several poor people from their homes and threw them out by the roadside. Thomas Hayes and Edward Hayes and Michael Hogan were evicted from their homes in this village but their homes were not occupied by Planters as happened in other portions of the parish.
The people were evicted from their homes for the simplest offence. there were several fights between the tenants and the Landlord's agents and the police. Several of tenants were put into jail and one man named Thomas Larkin in Gurteeny died in prison.
