  1. Once upon a time there was a man living in a haunted house. No one would stay in it but he. The first night he went in it, when he was just ready to go to bed a black leg stuck in the door. There was a pipe between its toes. When the man saw this he was not a bit frightened but he put a coal in his pipe.
    When the coal was in the pipe the leg went out again.
