    On St Brigids eve the old people used to make a cross of unthreshed straw and fasten a potato on it with a pointed stick. They would then fasten the cross to the inside of their dwelling house. When they would begin sowing the potatoes they would take down that potato and cut it in three parts and plant it first in the field and
